Happy Birthday! You are FIVE!

Happy Birthday Xander!  Today you turned FIVE!  You woke me up enthusiastically stating, "MOM! I AM DEFINITELY FIVE!  LOOK HOW FAR I CAN JUMP!  I COULD NEVER JUMP THAT FAR WHEN I WAS 4 1/2!"

I am so proud of you!  You are such an awesome person. You care for Miles.  You encourage him when he is learning a new skill.  When he pees in the toilet you say, "Good job Miles.  Do you want a special treat?"  You also tell him, "You are such a cute little baby," in a sing-song voice.  When he plays at your school, you watch out for him and tell your friends, "This is my little brother.  We have to be careful around him."

Today the day started out by eating a pancake breakfast at your school.  We then came home and you play a new video game on the computer with daddy.  You really love video games.  It is a game where you make things dirty and daddy tries to make things clean.

We then ate your Perry the Platypus cake at Himmel Park with your friend Peter.  He is one of your very good friends from school.  You had fun on the playground, rolling down the hill, and playing with little wood airplanes.  Peter gave you a super hero sticker book and a postcard about outer space.  You really love astronomy.  You talk about it often.  You want to be the first person on Mars.

For your birthday you ate your Perry cake, oreo cookies, apple juice, and pretzels.  After playing with Peter, we came home.  Daddy made you a spaceship and an igloo from your new large tinker toys.  They make castles and such that you put a sheet over.  You also got a fabric map of the world.  We put velcro animals on the map according to where they live.  You remember that Jessie, your babysitter, is in Australia this year, where the koalas and kangaroos live.  We had a nice evening at home, as a family.

You really enjoy PBS Kids.  You watched Cat in the Hat today about the leopard who sneaks up on it's prey.  You have been sneaking up on me lately and surprising me.  Today you said, "How come it is hard to sneak up on moms.  They can see everything.  How can they see everything?" I explained to you that moms have a sense that they just know what their kids are doing.  We also have peripheral vision.  You find this fascinating and are trying to figure it out.  You then told daddy, "I can see like mommies.  I can see out of the corner of my eyes."

You love numbers.  You know how to add up to 20.  You like to practice counting to 100.  You want to know what the biggest number is.  Daddy looked on the computer for the answer.  It is called a googleplexion.  I heard you tell your friends at school about that number.

You were very excited when you received 4 cards in the mail yesterday.  Grandma Joyce and Grandpa Jack, Granny Peggy, Granny Miller, and Grandma Connie and Grandpa Rick.  You got $165 and alot of stickers for your birthday.  When you opened Granny Miller's card full of stickers you exclaimed, "This is the best birthday ever!"

Last Wednesday we went to the zoo with Ethan and Ben's families.  You tell me that Ethan is your best friend.  He made you a card for your birthday.  His sister, Madeleine, made you a card also.  You only wanted Ethan to make you a card.  We ate smoothies, cucumbers, apples, and blueberry strudels at the zoo to celebrate your birthday. You were eager to feed the ducks when we got there.  Instead of seeing the elephants you wanted to get wet in the splash area.  It was a hot day and after we cooled off you felt better.  We ran into Rose from your class there.  It was a really fun day!

I love you Xander.   You are so full of life and energy and have so many questions to ask me and daddy.  You are always thinking and trying to figure out the world.  I sometimes wish I had more answers for you.  Enjoy your 5th year of life!

Love,
mommy
